HOW IT ALL BEGAN:
Family Healing Center Beginnings
Family Healing Center in Livingston is the brainchild of Malik Carey and Bill Powell. Bill Powell has 50 plus years’ experience as a licensed clinical therapist and has helped many married and committed couples to rebuild their relationships. Bill and Malik saw that solo practices usually offered limited therapeutic resources. They had a vision to open a mental health center that would change the lives of families by providing a full complement of services. And so Family Healing Center was established and staffed with highly qualified therapists.

In 2017 Mr. Powell returned to private practice in Maplewood, NJ leaving the leadership of Family Healing Center to its Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Malik Carey. With Mr. Carey at the helm, Family Healing Center has soared to greater heights in mental health therapy.

CEO MALIK CAREY
Under the leadership of CEO Malik Carey, Family Healing Center has served approximately two thousand clients from 2015 to 2022. Malik has merged his vast business experiences with his earnest passion for wellness to help create a holistic safe haven where families can heal, recuperate and live healthier, more productive lives, through our core value approach of C.A.R.E.-Compassion, Appreciation, and building strong Relationships with Expertise in mental health therapy.
Malik holds a BA in Religious Studies from Seton Hall University and a MS in Organizational Leadership from Nyack College. He was the former C.O.O. of The K.I.N.G. Movement, a National Men’s Ministry as well as a past leader of The Overcomer’s Program, a 12-Step Christian-Based Empowerment group instilled with promoting and maintaining disengagement from substance abuse and other maladaptive addictions.
Malik’s volunteer efforts are deeply rooted in New Jersey’s West Orange community where he is a highly respected mentor for young adults. Bethany Church, The Bethany Center of Champions and Daytop Treatment Facility are just a few of the faith-based organizations to which he graciously lends his time and efforts.
